MED e-care are excited to announce updates to our Medication Profile and Manage Order features in our eMAR solution.
Users will benefit from:
- Improved look and feel
- Easy to use smart search, making it quicker to find residents and medication etc
- Better filtering allowing you to focus on PRN protocols, CDs, High Alert orders and Self admin orders
- Simpler and quicker to edit schedules and manage stock
- ‘View History’ function to easily audit and review all previous changes and edits
- Witness signatures can now be enforced for all changes, if required
- Preview schedules before making any changes
- Make multiple changes at the same time, for example you can discontinue a medication and write the stock off as “Returned/Destroyed” at the same time.
There are two ways you can manage an order:
- Click on the “Manage Order” button in the medication round:
- Click on eMAR > Orders > Medication Profile
- Search for the required resident
- Click on “Manage” for the required medication:
The new Manage Order window:
- Resident’s details
- Resident’s allergies, diagnoses and diet info
- Medication details
- MAR/TAR flag (NEW) – this will show if the order is on the MAR or the TAR
- “View History” button (NEW) - this will show the details of all changes that have previously been made to this order.
- Preview Schedule (NEW) – this will show previous administrations and the future schedule
- “Edit” button
- Stock details
- “Hide Details” button (NEW) – this temporarily removes the medication details from the screen to protect privacy.
- Cancel

- Search and filter options
- History grid
- Export to CSV option – this opens the data in Excel and enables you to quickly print these details
“Edit” Window:
- Resident’s details

- “View History” button
- Instructions – these can be edited. If an instruction has been edited, an “Edited” badge will appear next to the instructions.
- The route of administration can be changed by selecting from the dropdown box
- Tick the box to set the medication as self-administered. You can also remove the tick if you no longer require a medication to be marked as self-administered.
- Tick the box to set the medication as a High Alert medication. You can also remove the tick if you no longer require a medication to be marked as High Alert.
- “Choose Pre-Defined Frequency” – you can add a pre-defined schedule from the drop-down list of:
- Once Daily
- At Bedtime
- Twice Daily
- Three Times Daily
- Four Times Daily
- Tea only
These can be edited once you have selected them.
- You can change the medication from/to the MAR or TAR here
- Click “End Schedules” to make a change to that schedule. This will automatically apply an end date
- Click “Add Give Time” to add in a new schedule
Click “Add PRN” to add a PRN dose
- Stock information – you can edit the On-Hand, Returned/Destroyed, Brought from Prior and Carried to Next figures here.
- “Put on Hold” – you can place a medication on hold for a specific amount of time or place it on indefinite hold.
“Stop - Discontinue” – discontinue the medication (under instruction from the prescriber)
“Stop Order” – stop a medication for the following reasons:
- Duplicate order
- Course complete
- Wrong MAR Instructions
- Resident Deceased
- Preview schedule – preview your changes before saving them
- “Cancel” – exit without making changes
“Save All Fields” – save your edits – you can save multiple changes at the same time:
- a colleague may be required to enter their username and password
- you will be required to enter the reason(s) why you have made each change on the “Confirm Edit” screen.
Confirming Changes
- Preview of the existing schedule before any changes were made
- Preview of what the schedule will be after your changes are applied
- Summary of any stock changes
- You are required to enter the reason why you have made the change(s). A separate reason is required for each change. Select a reason from the dropdown box. You can make additional notes of explanation if required.
- Your colleague may be required to enter their username and password to act as a witness to the changes that have been made. This may not be required in all homes.
- “Confirm” your changes or “Cancel” without making any edits
