Subject: Question on CCRS fields K2b, K3a and K3b
Question: why client cannot submit a Quarterly Assessment where K3a and K3b are Unknown Please note that they coded (weight) as 9999 and that’s why they want to code unknown K3a & K3b fields as blank.
Can you please confirm which of the following scenario is correct for quarterly assessment, when K2b having code 0001 or 9999: 1. K3a and K3b fields should allow code 9 (i.e. Unknown) 2. K3a and K3b fields should select value either 0 or 1.
Answer: Scenario 2 is correct when coding data elements K3a (weight loss) and K3b (weight gain) on a quarterly assessment.
The only two valid values that can be coded for K3a and K3b when completing a full or quarterly assessment is 0 (No) or 1 (Yes). If it is not possible to weigh the resident, it is recommended that you use clinical judgment to determine if there has been a weight gain or a weight loss. A value of 9 (unknown) is only valid when completing an admission full assessment.
