Add a medication with a custom cyle

A custom cycle med may be used when a medication does not follow a regular schedule, such as Alendronic Acid or Tramadol; which are given once a week or 1 in the morning and 2 at night, respectively.

1) Click on the e-MAR tab on the green bar.

2) Click on orders tab on the blue bar. 

3) Make sure Add to MAR/TAR is selected on the white bar.

4) To select a resident so we can add the medication to their MAR, click the magnifying glass to search for residents.

5) Click on the resident required or type the residents name in the search filter and click Find.

6) Select the prescriber then click in circle to the left of the word MAR (this will add the medication to the resident's MAR records).

7) Type in the drug name (make sure it is spelt correctly) and click the magnifying glass to the right, this will search for all medication that match with your search. Select the correct medication remembering to check that you have selected the correct brand, strength and form.

Enter the total dispensed amount, this is the number of tablets you have been given by the pharmacy

Finally on the drop down box for frequency select Every.

8) This should have opened a new page called a custom cycle. Enter how many days you want the cycle to repeat over. For instance Tramadol 1 in the morning 2 at night, I would want this to repeat every day so my cycle would run over 1 day. For Alendronic Acid a once a week tablet, this would need to repeat every 7 days. This is so you can specify which day the Alendronic acid needs to be given on.

9) Use the + and - buttons to add or delete extra time slots or take away if needed for the same day.

10) Select a route of administration. You can also click send to receive orders if the medication is not required straight away. This will allow for the medication to be double signed at a later date, however you will not be able to administer the medication until this double signature has taken place.

11) Select the Pharmacy source and click Add to MAR Now to finish.

You have now added this medication on a custom cycle.
